What do we want? AUTOSAVE!
When do we want it? NOW!
Wikidot is an extremely powerful Web 2.0 engine. With its powers, it is easy to create sleek and uniform websites; for business, for education and for personal use. It is also powerful enough to create web-applications; this blog, for example.
So many once manual tasks have been automated into sleek processes. But there is one task that has not being automated: saving new pages. Indeed, to save a page, you must click the "save" button1.
Using powerful tools such as the NewPage and ListPages modules, you can create pages and have them automatically listed and published somewhere else simultaneously. The NewPage module in particular allows you to type in some text for a new page's title.
If an autosave feature existed, we'd be able to automatically save a page upon its creation (go figure). This would be useful to do things such as:
- A twitter-like news feed;
- An IM chat room;
- Question & Answer interface;
- Creating instant polls.
All of these things ARE possible already; however, you need to click "save" on the newly created page.

Yes, I think that polls would be easier to do with autosave.
I can also see an I.M. chat room. Use the newpage module to type in whatever you want to add, the page is created with the title. It is saved, the template redirects it back to the original page. Not a bad idea. Have you created a wish for this on the wikidot site yet?
Great minds think alike! In addition, I was thinking of an invisible iframe that has a javascript count-down (say, 10 seconds?), which then refreshes the parent page; this means automatically checking for chat replies.
No, but David has. I did reinforced the wish on Pro @ Wikidot.com.

I really hope that gets passed. I don't know what all we could do with wikidot if we had that. I like the Q&A thing. You could have questions created, with the tag "unanswered" or something, and have the person who answers it change the tag. That is good.
The countdown might be a little rash, but it's not a bad idea. I mean how long does it take to refresh a page? If I am reading something, I don't want it to disappear every 10 seconds. Maybe a refresh button?
Autosave would be so incredibly excellent.

Would something like a silent = "yes" argument on NewPage be right? Creates the page with the specified title/tags/parent and reloads the current page…?
You're starting to do horribly evil things with Wikidot and I like it.

I like the idea of silent="yes", but I like how david had it here, even more.
It is something that really should be implemented. He really needs to be on the dev team.
Sorry - I'd missed David's proposal. Actually, I skipped the notification email because for me, "autosave" meant regular saving in the editor.
Yes, David's design is excellent, his arguments are accurate, and is what we'll make.

Wait, so you will do it!!!
Also, how do I get notifications. When they first started coming out, I had like 50 of them, and I wanted them to stop, so I resigned from them. Now, I can't get them back.
I'm not a developer, the best I can do is line up issues in order of urgency and make it easy for Michal & Co. to shoot them down.
But yes, this will happen sooner rather than later.

And there's a few people saying they can't get notifications any longer. Something we need to check.
