At last Windows 7 has launched, to directly compete with Mac's Snow Leopard and [snorts] Ubuntu's Jaunty Jackalope. In looking at the wallpapers that come with it, the “Architect” theme jumped out to me at once… I recognised it immediately:
has_image: architecture-wallpaper.jpg from: blog:56 It's a glamourous picture of Melbourne's very own “Sound Tube” on the CityLink highway on the way over the Bolte Bridge!!! If you would like a virtual tour of the Sound Tube, Google's Street View offers this with a 360° view: I'm just so happy that Microsoft released Windows 7 with a bit of Me!bourne in it!!! λ James Kanjo Related pages: |
Aussie Architect in Windows 7

How is the OS itself?
"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;" ~ 1 Peter 3:16
I haven't bought it… I don't think I really need it. I only ever switch over to Vista mode occasionally.

Why does Microsoft charge their users so much to upgrade? I mean, Apple charges $25 dollars (i think) to upgrade to their new "Snow Leopard". Ubuntu is free - of course! Then there is Windows…. from $230 Australian Dollars!
Apparently, the new "HomeGroup" in W7 is just an easier method for home users to set up Workgroups, File Sharing and Printer Sharing….. not much use to me!

In Australia, the Snow Leopard upgrade costed AU$39 (compared to US$29). According to here, the upgrade price for Windows 7 Home Premium is AU$199.
Hmm, $199 for Windows OS upgrade, or $39 for Mac OS upgrade? Well, personally I'd go with the Mac upgrade and pocket the $160.
Think about it: a Microsoft Operating System costs ~$200, and lasts about 3 years before the next OS release. That's ~$67 per year for quality software to run your computer. In reality, it's really costing you $1.27 per week to run the latest version of Windows on your computer.
It may seem expensive, but in reality, it's a much more reasonable price that Apple's offering ($0.25 per week) — I question whether Apple's upgrade price is even profitable (I doubt they're making money from software so cheap).

I'd rather pay that $1.27 a week, than to pay it all upfront!!! :)
I hadn't really looked at the Architecture theme yet, so I hadn't seen that. Probably wouldn't have recognised it anyway as I've only been in Victoria about five times, and in Melbourne itself once.
I'm still running Windows 7 for free (Release Candidate). From what I've heard, Windows Update makes it identical to the retail version. The only problem I have is it's June 2010 expiry date — but at least it gives me 7 months to save up the moolah.
