When I made the decision to purchase an iPhone 3GS, I decided on the highest capacity at the time: 32GB.
The reason being, I wanted to contain my entire music library on it, as well as my entire photo collection, my entire movie collection and my entire… well, my computer really.
Two years onwards and 32GB is still the highest capacity to opt for on an iPhone!!!
Low and behold, I have finally ran out of memory, and have needed to sacrifice on a few media collections, starting with my movie podcasts. It's a sad time for me at the moment :(
So now I need a higher capacity iPhone — 64GB is the next ideal in line. However, Apple is unlikely to grant a 64GB version for the iPhone 4 line, so I guess I'll just have to wait until the iPhone 5.
If anybody has noticed a pattern with iPhones, Apple have actually released a new iPhone model each year since it's first model in 2007:
- 2007 — iPhone (4GB, 8GB, 16GB)
- 2008 — iPhone 3G (8GB, 16GB)
- 2009 — iPhone 3GS (8GB, 16GB, 32GB)
- 2010 — iPhone 4 (16GB, 32GB)
So following this pattern:
- 2011 — iPhone 5 (16GB, 32GB, 64GB)
- 2012 — iPhone 6 (32GB, 64GB)
- 2012 — iPhone 7 (32GB, 64GB, 128GB)
- 2013 — iPhone 8 (64GB, 128GB)
If Apple continue this pattern, the iPhone 5 is due to arrive this year with an added capacity option of 64GB — exactly what I need.
Now if they follow their pattern of release dates, which has been:
- iPhone 3G — More than a year later
- iPhone 3GS — Less than a year later
- iPhone 4 — More than a year later
Then they should release the iPhone 5 less than a year after the release of iPhone 4 — theoretically being before the 24th of June. Well, that's what I'm hoping for anyways!

Yep, iPhone 5 is definitely a hot contender for this year, or very early next year. There have been a few information leaks from Apple already about it, but nothing significant - just enough to know that an iPhone 5 is definitely coming, soon.

I heard a rumour about a new iMac, and mentioned it to the store when I bought my MacBook. Apparently they'd heard nothing. And in the news this past week… there's a new iMac with quad-core processor. I should have posted it on my blog, so that you'd actually believe me, rather than saying this after it's already happened =)
Unfortunately [ assuming my "sources" are correct :) ] … I don't think you'll be getting an iPhone 5 on or before the 24th of June. Sometime mid-Q3 or Q4 2011 is my guess. (August '11 or later)
