Sorry for spamming your blog. I've taken out the urlAttrPrefix parts and it works like a charm. Maybe that can help you or future users diagnose the problem (if there actually is one). I don't pass anything else by URL anyways.
Hi James,

Is this broken now? If so, you probably already know that on the showcase site…

No matter which translation is selected for /start, the content from both the Japanese and English versions shows up, and all three languages are listed as having translations available.

I reproduced similar behavior on my site, where I made the pages in the order: en nd fr. And now, the content is: fr en. I would like to use this solution if it works.

Thanks for developing this!

Frank

Forum category: Forum / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Launching: Multilingual Framework

James,
Are you still around? I sent an comment yesterday, so pleased with my amount of space that I had reclaimed.. however now that I am in iphoto there are about 1/4 photos that are coming up with a grey exclamation mark. Which after calling Apple means that these photos are gone forever. They are telling me to look into hiring an external company to come in for data recovery. :(
Are you able to help me? They said because I actually trashed my pics from the trash that there isnt anything we can do to undo the terminal commands.
Help!

Forum category: Forum / Per page discussions
Forum thread: iPhoto: Reclaim Your Memory!

Question: Is this Thomas More's Utopia we're talking about here, or just the general idea of a happy, lovely place?

if the former, this is exactly what the Nazis in all their communistic glory were supposedly doing, trying to create a world where everything was completely equal (or at least in name), but we all saw what happened there, no?

In the case of the latter, I'm sorry, but this really isn't possible unless we were all to die and go to Heaven…

@Shane Smith…Utopia actually means no place, and for good reason too…

sorry, I realize I'm being rather critical her,e but I just don't agree…i am open to suggestions as to how, but I think it'll need to be a bit more than the above listed…very good article for a 9th grader though…congrats!

Forum category: Forum / Per page discussions
Forum thread: What is Utopia?

I would like to rephrase the term “Utopia” to “Ultimate Reality” because it is the “Ultimate Reality” in life that we as human beings with authentic souls, hearts, minds, consciousness, ethical protocols, and empathy that we desired and needed to experience in our life-time while we are still alive and desired to leave with our next generation when we are gone!

Therefore, it is always possible to reach that ultimate reality: the reality that derived from the “Sacred Code of Ethics, Justice, Peace, Wisdom, Order, and Honor” which in turn will create the “Ultimate Reality of Harmony, Beauty, Love, Liberty, Freedom, and Dignity!”

This is my definition and perception of the “Ultimate Reality” that we can and must strive for in our life-time for the benefit of humanity and Planet Earth as a whole and for the benefit of our existences on Earth!

By Amy LifeStar

Forum category: Forum / Per page discussions
Forum thread: What is Utopia?

Hi James,
I finally found a reason to use this and I must say it was remarkably easy to get working. Kudos to you :)
One question: what exactly does the not yet compatible column mean? I noticed that lists are generated, but a little buggy.

Cheers,
Bryce

Forum category: Forum / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Wikidot: Yes, I truly have lost my mind

Hi James. I'm using your CSS Playground app to test some css code that I plan on using with the "Yakshave" Google Chrome extension. I've never written any CSS before, although I did learn some of it a long, long time ago, and I have written html, an even longer time ago. Anyway, although it looks like the CSS code that I've written is correct, I need some html to call it. Unfortunately, the "Custom Content" box, which I've checked, keeps wrapping my html in a paragraph tag, and putting it in quotes, thereby causing it to be the html to be displayed and making it impossible to reference the css that I've created. I guess I can try renaming the class of my style element to the class of the div that wraps my custom content, but that seems like kind of a backwards way to do it. Is there a better way to accompish this in CSS Playground?

Forum category: Forum / Per page discussions
Forum thread: James Kanjo

Yes, there are definitely several more users than just yourself :) Looking at the statistics, there seems to be about 5-6 main OS/Java configurations using STE on a semi-regular basis.

Sometimes there is a 1-2 day break where no one uses it, other days it's used by several people at once.

Assuming that some people have the same OS/Java configuration … e.g. most Mac users would be running either 10.6 or 10.7 and likely have the same Java version too … it is impossible for me to distinguish between them because I have not included any identifiable information in the stats (to respect privacy).

Going by that… I'm guessing that 10 is a solid number when looking at the "core" list of users. There are occasionally others that try it too.

There are many more watchers on the website than that, so perhaps that estimate is a bit low :)

In the future I intend to find some way to count downloads of each version. That'll give me a more reliable number to go on.

Forum category: Forum / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Wikidot: API — A New Age

I thought this was going to be about the API in general - and then I see you mentioning STE… thanks! :) I can't thank you enough for your support, ideas and feedback every time I release an update. Knowing that someone appreciates my work is what encourages me to continue working on it.

Anyway, at the time, the Wikidot API only had reading privileges, and was only compatible with the Python programming language.

Just a quick correction: the XML-RPC protocol has always been open to all languages, and because the Wikidot API has always used this protocol, that means any language could access it.

Back when the API was first released, the only official examples provided by Wikidot were written in Python. For this reason I mistakenly thought that Python was required, as it seems you have done here. Later I found out that was not the case. It was just that no-one had written a library for the Wikidot API yet in any other language! :)

Thanks again,

- Shane

P.S. Next version of STE (v3.50) is very likely to include the ability to send watching notifications when you save a page, making it a bit more useful for blogs like yours. It hasn't been implemented yet, but I have every intention to add that feature ASAP.

Forum category: Forum / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Wikidot: API — A New Age

Are you using Windows Vista, or 7 with the taskbar layout changed? I've found that the Windows 7 taskbar is just as useful as Mac OS X's dock.

I'm also extremely glad that HyperDock for Mac exists. It adds so many essential features that Windows 7 has and I can't do without - making my Mac much easier to use.

At the moment I use Windows for .NET programming mostly. I've found that I need to keep it on a separate computer though, because running Windows on a Mac using Bootcamp sucks - badly.
I've noticed the UI issues you mentioned as well. The Mac OS X UI certainly isn't perfect! (However, I suppose Windows 7's isn't either).

The calendar application (iCal) is pretty useful.

Have been meaning to write a blog post like this one, but need to sit down and start thinking about the pro's and con's of each before I do that. I've been using the MacBook for about a month now and still haven't thought too much about the differences between this and Windows.

Probably the most stand-out improvement of my MacBook is the battery life. To get the same 10 hours on a Windows laptop I'd have to buy a new battery - it'd be very rare to find one that lasts that long in a computer you just bought.

Though MacBook falls down compared to Windows in many ways as well. The UI - despite it being one of Mac's "best" advertised features - does lack in some respects. If I hadn't bought the HyperDock application I'd be nowhere near as happy with my MacBook as I am today. But that kind of functionality should have come built-in to the OS, just like it is in Windows Vista & 7.

Forum category: Forum / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Quick evaluation

It just struck me that for a Wikidot-to-HTML converter, you are not showing the HTML code!

As well as rendering it like you are now, perhaps you should also show the generated HTML code as well (in a code block)?

The main reason I would suspect for someone to look at this Wikidot-to-HTML converter is because they want to enter some Wikidot code and get given HTML code in return.
Thanks Kenneth :)

All of my coding is 100% my own. When it came to the InterWiki Syntax, however, the documentation only lists “examples”. The list of examples did not appear to be exhaustive of the InterWiki Syntax, so I turned to the Open Source version for clues.

Interestingly enough, the list of examples was exhaustive. Well, except for one: the Polish Wikipedia. It is undocumented, and it uses two alternative syntaxes:

[pl.wikipedia:JavaScript]

[wikipedia.pl:JavaScript]

So to answer your question, yes I did take a peek :)

Forum category: Forum / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Wikidot: Yes, I truly have lost my mind

Thanks Gabrys!
I found some rogue code that was resetting a variable with data in it:

var arr_raw = new Array();

So the parser couldn't replace the literal text, because the literal text had been deleted.
I don't know how that code appeared there?!
Thanks James!

As I discussed with you earlier via PM, this would be perfect for me to use in STE (allowing offline preview to be implemented faster, and saving me time writing the parser myself).

Your copyright guidelines state that as well as referencing you as the original author of a derivative work, I should also link back to the original page. I was originally thinking about doing this:

Offline Preview Thanks to James Kanjo http://james.wikidot.com/blog:74

But … would you be happy to instead be added as a developer, with it mentioned that you basically wrote 90% of the parser for offline previews, but no link to here?

I feel that doing so would give you greater recognition, and basically implies that if you decide to update this parser, you can send me a copy of the code for me to update STE as well. You'd essentially be in charge of development for the parser in STE.

Forum category: Forum / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Wikidot: Yes, I truly have lost my mind
